About Your Therapist

Compassionate support tailored entirely to you

I believe therapy should not feel analytical, cold, or transactional; it should feel like a safe sanctuary where you can finally set down the weight you have been carrying.

I’m Richard Sedgman, founder of Live Well HQ. Over my 20-year career as a professional counsellor, accredited social worker, and family therapist, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families navigating their most painful challenges. Whether you are dealing with chronic stress, complex relationships, unresolved trauma, parenting friction, or simple burnout, I am here to work with you toward growth and healing.

"What drives my work is helping clients live, not just survive. I’ve faced my own life challenges with health, work, and relationships, so I know firsthand that recovery is not about being perfect, it’s about reconnecting to your resilience with the right support."

My approach to therapy is holistic, supporting the connection between mind, body, and emotional wellbeing. Together, we create a safe, supportive space where you can move at your own pace, build self-confidence and resilience, develop healthy boundaries, and reconnect with what feels most meaningful and authentic to you.

Therapeutic Principles

Our framework for lasting change

The LiveWell HQ therapeutic framework is strengths-based, compassionate, and collaborative, providing a safe and supportive space where clients can build resilience, strengthen relationships, and create meaningful, lasting change.

Evidence-Based Practice

Our approach integrates evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) with a warm, collaborative style. For couples, we draw on the Gottman Method to strengthen communication, connection, and relationship health.

Integrated Wellbeing

We take a holistic approach that recognises the connection between your mind, body, nervous system, relationships, and life experiences. By understanding the broader context of your challenges, we can create meaningful and lasting change.

Empowering Lasting Growth

You are the expert in your own life. A strengths-based approach supports the development of self-awareness, emotional regulation, and practical skills, strengthening internal resources and confidence to navigate life’s challenges independently.

FAQ

Common questions about starting counselling

Reassuring answers to the practical, logistic, and therapeutic concerns we hear most from new clients.

How long is a session, and how often do we meet?

Standard therapy sessions are 50 minutes. At the start of your journey, weekly or fortnightly appointments are recommended to build momentum. As you feel more stable and integrated, we can lengthen the gap between check-ins.

Can I claim rebates for my sessions?

Yes, depending on your referral and health coverage. As an accredited mental health professional, my services qualify for Medicare rebates if you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP. Many private health insurance funds also offer coverage.

Is our work together confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentiality is the cornerstone of effective therapy. Everything discussed inside our sessions is completely private and protected under strict clinical standards, with disclosure only occurring in safe-keeping conditions required by law.

What is somatic integration, and how does it help?

Somatic integration helps process emotional stress stored directly inside the physical body. Rather than just speaking about a trauma or anxiety trigger, we work on identifying body tension, breathing patterns, and physical sensations to help your nervous system gently discharge bottled-up stress.
